Fire Academy
Do you enjoy helping people and making a difference in your community? In Sandhills Fire Academy you will participate in training to become a competent, confident and fully prepared fire service provider. The Academy focuses on an intense hands-on approach to firefighting at our public safety training center campus. You will receive training and instruction that promotes both skill competency and understanding of the fireground. Certifications include: Firefighter I/II, Hazardous Materials Level I Responder, Technical Rescuer, and EMT-Basic. Our program is approved by the NC Office of the State Fire Marshal and the NC Community College System. Current volunteer firefighters may be eligible for a fee waiver based on their membership with a local, city, county or state fire department. Application packets available at fireacademy.sandhills.edu or in the Continuing Education offices in Van Dusen Hall. Academies begin the second Tuesday in July and February and classes are Monday through Thursday 8:30am-5pm and on Fridays 8:30am-4pm. Prerequisite: High School Diploma or equivalent Instructor: Chad Thomason, Scott Padgett, Forrest Cox Classes are at the Larry R Caddell Public Safety Training Center in Carthage, NC $75-$185 (waived for qualified students) $180 uniform fee + $2.50 insurance
