Makasong Days of the Dance
'Days of the Dance', written by 3 Daft Monkeys, is a fabulous song about the 'dancing plague' that occurred in Strasbourg in 1518. It is one of Liddy's (one of our choir members) favourite songs. Her Mum, Marie, she suggested that we translate and perform it for Halloween, although it can be enjoyed all year round! Marie adores Halloween and most of the props you see in the video belong to her. 3 Daft Monkeys have kept Liddy, Marie and their thousands of followers going during lockdown with live Facebook performances each week. We are privileged to have their singer, Tim Ashton, and their fiddle player, Athene Roberts, performing in the video. There is also a guest appearance by their son! We have also been helped out by a few of the Picnmix dancers who have done an awesome job at playing the parts of the 'dancers'. We are a Community Signing Choir and use the Makaton Language Programme to sign key words to songs. The lyrics have to be carefully interpreted, by the Makaton tutors in our choir, so some of the signs may not match the words exactly but represent the meaning of the lyrics. We have been going over a year but, since lockdown, have only been able to meet via Zoom on a weekly basis. Not all of our members have been able to join us on Zoom and we are looking forward to having us all back together again. This is our fifth 'lockdown' video and we managed to record this video together, in a socially-distanced way, with our bubbles carefully managed on different days, although we had to dodge several downpours! Credit must go to Elizabeth, who at 15 years of age is a technical genius and puts together all the videos for us. She did this one in record time - thank you!
