Josh Smith - Digging Deep with WP_Query

October 3, 2017. WP_Query is a powerful class that gives us what we need most of the time. Sometimes, we want a boost from this powerhouse so we need to recruit some help from its friends. Josh Smith, a Web Developer at Dice.com, was tasked to come up with a way to serve custom data in a very specific way; a way that WP_Query doesn’t give us “out-of-the-box”. He’ll walk through the problem, the intuitive solutions and why they ultimately didn’t work for him. Josh will demonstrate why some of the popular blog posts’ solutions did not fit this specific need either. Remember, software development is often a trade and we don’t get to have everything we want. Josh will step through his (almost) complete solution but also its potential problems. He’ll walk us through why a departure from “best practices” may be the right move for you to deliver software to stakeholders. Bring your thinking caps because he said he’s going to take us into the weeds, but he promised most of us will come back. This meetup was sponsored by A2 Hosting.
