Witchual Workout 149: PYTHIA - the Oracle at Delphi
Welcome BACK to the Witchual Workout with Laura Tempest Zakroff - a ritually-inspired movement experience designed to get us moving a bit more on a daily basis. Every week, we have a different magical focus and build up our stamina and body exploration. Today's inspiration is the Pythia from the Oracle at Delphi in Greece. The Pythia were the seers/priestesses/beings of prophecy residing at the Oracle. The term "pythia" is related to Python - the serpent said to be slain by Apollo, but likely refers to an earlier serpent deity. All over the world, serpent deities were often usurped by newer deities, hence why you often find references to snakes/serpents/dragons in many creation myths. The first part of this movement experience is a warm-up (that I do standing), and then for the second part, the work is done entirely on a (rather squeaky) stool which is a nod to the platform that the Pythia were said to tell their prophecies from. So this episode especially is a good seated exercise as well. Music: Song One: "Pythia" by The Nathaniel Johnstone Band Song Two: "Black Snake" by Wendy Rule
