Five good reasons why - Second Screen gaming will fail

Do you remember the way Sony was trying to convince gamers that 3D was the way to go? In the end this whole 3D thing missed the boat when it comes to gaming. Such a development is about to happen again. Many developers are considering second screen game elements for their consoles games. These are five good reasons why second screen gaming will not succeed and will remain a cool gimmick. - Music by: [Nu Disco] : Televisor - Dream Soda Licensed by Monstercat: http://youtube.com/MonstercatMedia 1. Focus It's very nice to have a map or the contents of your virtual backpack shown on your phone or tablet. It keeps your screen clean right? In some games this might not be a big problem, but in stressful situations we want to focus on the main screen without getting distracted by something like that second screen. There's a reason why we are not allowed to text and drive. 2. Only two hands Removing one hand from your controller will immobilize your character or make him unable to wield a weapon. In short: you NEED two hands to control a game. The moment you reach down for your tablet or phone, you are bait for all your virtual enemies. 3. No standardization What kind of second screen do you have? An iPad? Samsung Galaxy Tab? Maybe you own a Nokia Lumia or a Microsoft Surface Pro? With all these and many more tablets coming to the market, second screen gaming requires a very custom approach for each device. Besides, does a Windows tablet work with a Playstation? Or a Sony tablet with a Xbox One? There's too much stuff to sort out. It. Is. NOT. Easy. 4. Wii U At this very moment there's one console that REALLY embraced second screen gaming. The Wii U. Playing multiplayer on the Wii U allows gamers to play on the big screen using a Wii remote, while another player uses the Wii U gamepad to compete. At times this works awesome, but it's not a big success. Nintendo wanted to sell 9 million Wii U systems by the end of March, but is now expecting 2.9 million units due to low demand. That's not a good sign for second screen gaming for sure. 5. It's still cool Don't get us wrong. Showing live maps for Assassin's Creed 4 or Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes on a tablet is very sweet, but this is not the future for gaming. Controlling drones in The Division is a bit more like it. But still... Our bets are on those Virtual Reality helmets made by Oculus, Sony and Valve. What are your ideas about second screen gaming?
