GOPRO HERO 8 Black USB Fault *EXPLAINED* in English

If you GoPro HERO 8 Black is having USB problems then this is probably why. This video describes it and explains whether or not it could be a problem you need to get an RMA for. The major emphasis on wireless connection and the Media Mod accessory has meant that the HERO 8 has a significant design difference compared to pretty much all previous GoPro cameras. Essentially, it's a victim of manufacturing rationalisation to reduce costs and create a market for special accessories - though a series of perfectly understandable and sensible business decisions. The best analogy I can use to help explain why they've done it is bathroom tiling... You don't need to tile the walls hidden by the bath. They tend to be functional bare walls - without the lovely tiled finish the visible parts of the bathroom normally have. They can also hide pipework too... In older models the battery and SD card were in a separate area to the HDMI and USB ports - so two doors. On the HERO 8, the HDMI port has gone and the battery, SD card and USB-C socket are all behind one door. This simplifies the development of the Media Mod because you don't have to worry about access to a second door. You need the USB-C port to fit it onto the HERO 8 but as the socket is then hidden it doesn't need to have the same finish and practicality as other visible parts. You'll also have to buy the Media Mod if you want the HDMI port back. This has, however, changed the orientation of the USB-C socket on the HERO 8 from the vertical of previous models to horizontal - which increases the stress on the socket when the bulky mic adaptor and USB cables are connected. See the fault in action on this (unlisted) video - https://youtu.be/se4mpmlVyTc I had to RMA my original GoPro HERO 8 BLACK for a replacement and used that video as evidence for the Support Case - but more on that in this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4v9W9DcNbc If you are aware of this potential problem because you've watched this video then you might not have to do that though. EDIT: There's some misunderstanding about what I say about criticising large companies. Is it OK to slam Amazon for working conditions. It is OK to slam Apple for their closed store. If that's what you're angry about, then fine, but what you're actually slamming is capitalism - which is an entirely different set of videos. The history of industry makes it apparent that unregulated companies will do pretty much anything they can get away with to grow and if the choice is working or starving then there will always be people willing to work for them. What I'm saying is that you can't knock companies because they are large. They get that way by producing products that people buy. When virtually every aspect of popular culture portrays corporation as essentially evil - be it Umbrella, Weyland-Yutani, Cyberdyne, InGen, etc. - we should take note and remember to use the only weapon we have - our vote - to elect people that will protect us. Because if you want a phone, or anything that requires more than a garage to produce, then you're going to have to give your money to a large company. I'm never going to get rich from this, but it is nice to get something... So if you've watched this video then you can buy me as coffee using the Ko-fi link, click Like or click Subscribe. Or all three! https://ko-fi.com/nicbunting
