Explore BOGOTA, COLOMBIA in Two Days
Bogota is the largest city and the capital of Colombia. It is also the 5th largest city in the Americas. We visited Bogota in two days, discovered three ancient churches, and saw a few major places in this beautiful city. Mt. Monserrate is a hill that stands tall in Bogota, located at 3,152 meters above sea level. The main attraction is the church, Monserrate Monastery, built in the 17th century. It is accessed either by the tramway, climbing trail, or a funicular. During our visit, the only access available was through a funicular. The funicular takes five minutes to reach the top of the mountain. It's a short and fun ride. The cost of a round trip is $12.00. Mt. Monserrate is a must-see and one of Colombia's most famous tourist attractions. When the weather is clear, you'll enjoy a picturesque view. You can stay here the whole day and enjoy the beautiful skyline. Plaza Bolivar is the main attraction in La Candelaria. It is located in the heart of the city's historical area. A must-see is the Cathedral of Colombia, the first church in Bogotá, built in 1539. The Salt Cathedral is located in Zipaquirá, an hour away from Bogota. The Cathedral was built by locals and Colombian engineers in the tunnels of a salt mine and was inaugurated in 1954. It is a one-of-a-kind religious structure and a pilgrimage place. This may not be a wonder of the world, but it is the first wonder of Colombia and the highlight of Colombian architecture. After seeing this in person, I must say that this is a unique place, something I haven't seen anywhere -- a massive, incredible creation and now one of my favorite churches. The traditional Colombian dish is called Bandeja Paisa. It consists of arepa, chorizo, beans, rice, fried eggs, and ground meat. According to their history, farmers carry this meal to prepare their day-long trips to the city to sell their coffee. That's why it's a huge meal. Transportation in Bogota is easy. You can go from one place to another by renting a taxi. However, this is just a reminder that traffic can be bad, so give yourself extra time when catching your flight. Colombia is known worldwide for its coffee, and because I am a coffee person, I am a fan of Colombian coffee. After our trip to Bogota, I became not only a fan of their coffee but also a fan of this beautiful city. _________________________________ My Mission: To Travel and Inspire: To explore our beautiful world and make a difference in all the places I visit.
