How to replace a Canon Powershot S100 lens after a "Lens Error"
This video documents how, after getting the dreaded "Lens Error", I replaced the lens assembly on my Canon Powershot S100. BE SURE TO REMOVE THE BATTERY BEFORE STARTING THIS! Note: Be careful when you pop open the heatsink for the CMOS sensor. I held the camera upside down when I did this because I didn't want the broken piece of the Xacto blade to fall onto the sensor but you should really have the camera setting on the table so that you know where the small spacing washers came from. You can have 1, 2 or 3 washers. Update: April 2015 - The camera stopped working after I dropped it on the carpet, it went completely dead as though the battery was missing. After much testing I determined that there was an invisible short between the front cover and the ribbon cable on the lower right corner (as viewed from the front). I put a couple pieces of Scotch tape over the ribbon cable, put it back together and it now works fine.
