We present Direct Part Marking by nanostructured 2D barcodes, to provide accurate information directly where it is needed: on the actual part! imZERT™ is safe and low-cost, applying no foreign materials or contamination. Our methods enable all the benefits and advantages that follow with reliable DPM, with traceability that reaches all the way back to the moulding process, not just the packaging step. Inline Vision and barcode scanners are compatible with all barcodes, even small barcodes on white plastic. Smartphones can also scan all barcodes under proper lighting conditions and using dedicated apps. Handscanners work with some barcodes, but must be qualified with every implementation. Microscope setups with suitable image filtering can capture any barcode on any plastic or elastomer. imZERT™ barcode information contant and symbology can comply with any standard, including with the GS-1 implementation of the Datamatrix ECC200 standard.
