SAFM Radio Interview on The Jet Set breakfast show (Jan 2021)

We recently featured on The Jet Set breakfast show with Michelle Constant on the 17th January 2021. https://livestockwealth.com/ Here is the transcription: Michelle: “So Ntuthuko Shezi is the Chief executive officer or the Cow executive officer of the South African company Livestock Wealth and his business has built a platform where cows are one of the products available to local and global investors. He’s on the line with us now. Ntuthuko, thank you so much for joining us.” Shezi: “Michelle, it’s a great pleasure to be on your show. Good morning.” Michelle: “So I read this story and I was like, this is fascinating because if we look at the concept of land and animals and how it relates to wealth, not everyone has access as we know for various reasons to land but also to animals and to the idea of farming, not everyone wants to be a farmer per say. So, what have you offered people in its wake?” Shezi: “Really, we went on exactly what you have just said, to say there’s tons of South Africans, I would say more than 75% who would love to grow wealth through farming because farming was historically the way that Africans used to create wealth but now access to land, the way that they use to grow wealth through farming is not accessible to them. So we then set up to create Livestock Wealth. We call it a Crowdfarming platform where everyone can be a farmer and we do this simply by connecting farmers who already have the land and the cows with investors who want to own those cows, and we create this win win ecosystem where the farmer is benefiting from investment from people like you and me who are living in the city. Through our platform the farmer is able to take some of his cows, sell them to us who live in the city and he benefits there by accessing investment from the crowd, which is this process that is facilitated by Livestock Wealth and we then add a commission for connecting the investor and the farmer through our platform.” Michelle: “So Ntuthuko there’s a couple of things that are linked to that, I mean the first one would be that, I mean I love the idea that you are basically crowd sourcing or crowd farming as you call it, for any farmer who wants to engage. So I might decide, really, first of all, I don’t have access to land but certainly I have no desire to be a farmer but I think that it may be interesting to invest. What could I invest in?” Shezi: “Sure. We started off with cattle. We've got cattle, we also have macadamia trees and we also have garden tunnels, we call it the connected garden, in which they grow vegetables. So there are 3 products that you can invest in. In future we will add other products like goats, sheep, avocados and all that but the primary one it’s cattle which people really love from a cultural wealth point of view. Macadamia as you know is the most profitable crop you can grow on a piece of land. South Africa is the biggest producer of Macadamia in the world but there isn’t enough of it as it takes 6 years for a tree to grow so we then, through Livestock Wealth, are able to plant as many trees as possible with the farmer who’s got the know how is able to plant trees and sell them to us as a crowd so you Michelle, you could own your own 100 trees. Then they grow over a 6 year period, because they take quite a long time to start bearing fruit which means as a farmer you need about 6 years of money to maintain the tree, irrigate, pay staff, rent before you get the 1st harvest. So we then partner with the farmer where we buy the tree that he has planted and then our investors, you and me can own that tree as it grows and then after 6 years, then the farmer who’s financial situation has improved now is then able to buy back that tree for double the money. So for R2000 you are an owner of a tree, you can own as many trees as are available, and 6 years later you have doubled your money. On average it’s about a 13% per annum return. So for people who are wanting to save for education for the kids, kids going to university etc, it’s the perfect way to grow money. It’s a real life example of money growing on trees.” Michelle: “So Ntuthuko, one of the things obviously that this does, so I could invest either in a Macadamia nut tree, I could invest in a pregnant cow, a free range ox or as you say a connected garden. And really this is a way for farmers to access finances as opposed to only been able to access them on the final sale, if that’s correct? Shezi: “Absolutely. You know, farming is really difficult. Farmers really struggle to access funding from anywhere else. For farmers who are leasing land most financial institutions would want a title deed but now if you are leasing land where are you going to get the title deed from? The banks want the security and all that other stuff...” Read more at https://livestockwealth.com/news/
