NIO EC6 - Tesla Model 3 - When life hands you lemons, make applesauce
Damn, our *new* NIO was in an accident. A motorist was merging into the highway and cut off another motorist, who veered into our lane; we braked to avoid a frontal collision and then *boom* from the rear. Ironically, we were hit by the busy-with-his-phone driver of a Zeekr 001. We did a test drive of the same model several weeks back, and the irony of that is not lost on us. The energy transferred into us by the Zeekr should have damaged us more, but it didn’t. Our EC6 suffered far less than he did. Perhaps Zeekr is not as well built as our NIO? The hours of lost time that ensued were the worst of it, and the repair experience of dealing with NIO; well, what can we say? They showed us who they really are, and we believe them. It’s still a car we love, despite the corporation behind it. The upside to this experience was the loaner car. We selected a Tesla Model 3. Our Model 3 had a few miles on it, and we had it for more than 48 hours, so we took advantage of this unexpected opportunity to make a video. We had test-driven Teslas three times before purchasing the EC6; 20 min test drives under supervision tell you very little about a car, especially a brand new one. Our experience with this Model 3 told us that we made the right choice by purchasing our NIO.
