Russian Art Walk in the Omsk Fortress Gallery
Omsk LifeArt should wake us up. We go into a museum and should come out refreshed and see new color, design, and feel uplifted. That's what good art should do. Today, I strolled along the Lyubinsky Prospect and admired the statue of Lyuba, sitting elegantly with a book in hand. Making my way up the street and around to the right to the Omsk Fortress, I finally come to the museum that is exhibiting photographs of well-known Omsk artists. In this collection of photographs, I found myself spellbound by the reflection of water. I enjoyed the simplicity of the Siberian landscape, the muted tones of late fall or early spring, or the driving snow of winter. I am reminded that beauty is found all around us, usually in some way, and that some out-of-the-way corner of Russia provides a somber but refreshing space for the inhabitants to live in, in this vast country. Finally, a trip to the Dostoevsky Cafe for rich coffee and a tasty slice of cherry pie. The decor is very creative, and the cafe is cozy and interesting. And this is what makes Omsk a great place, the ability to slip around and enjoy life on the go.
