Galatea Kills the Calculator Bot: Take 1 (BOP Metropolis) - HOL Edition

The Calculator Bot - according to DCUO 'canon', such as it is - is the result of Calculator pulling an Edison on the Oracle's Avatar technology. The Calculator Bot, from a design standpoint? Is a grueling, mechanic-driven Bounty that is exceedingly rough to solo. Easily top 5, maybe top 3. There are essentially three phases to this fight, all of which are functionally the same in structure. Each phase essentially also has three sub-phases; these sub-phases vary quite a lot in approach. The Calculator Bot's weapon is Brawling, with Hand Blaster range attacks that both assist the feel of an ass-beating from a 20 foot tall android and substantially confuse the Counter mechanics of the fight. Between the sheer amount of damage Calculator Bot deals and the hinky Counter mechanics, you really don't want to play a Counter-heavy strategy here. The First Rule applies here - Stay Mobile Or You WIll Die. This is exacerbated by the Abilities it has access to. It has a large area Pull, which is dangerous because you need to maintain a distance; it also has a 360 projectile attack, which is not very harmful by itself but is difficult to avoid entirely. It has a couple of other terrifying attacks, like an Orbital that deals solid damage (thankfully with a small radius of affect) or the Ability Seal - which does damage over time to you and locks out your Abilities and Weapon Combos until you use a Breakout. And it can teleport, instantly removing itself from danger or placing you directly in the crosshairs. And it flies, so you can't escape it. It also has a teleportation Pull, a la Atomic: this drops you off at ground zero in the Giant Robot Assbeating Zone. And it does all of these things constantly, regardless of the phase of the fight. Initially you're going to want to get used to how its attacks work, individually and as a unit; throw the kitchen sink at it, that way you have an early lead (most things will be off of cooldown by the time you need them again). After some sparring, you'll have reduced the Calculator Bot's Health between 5-10%. Then it does something Unpleasant to you. It places the Calculator Dome. The Calculator Dome covers a large area, and anything inside of it that ISN'T Calcutech takes damage over time ticks constantly. It also summons six-ish small Calculator Drones - which all hover, have beam attacks, and possess an Ability that can lock your character in a cube. You take damage while you're in the cube: from the cube itself, from anything that attacks you, and from environmental factors like the Calculator Dome. Because of this Ability, this phase of the fight is particularly dangerous. I recommend a build with Shields, and maybe Personal Dampening Fields, as well as something with top-notch mitigation - like a Fire Tank. I also recommend saving Orbitals, Henchmen, or a multi-target Ally for this point in the fight, because you really do want the Drones off the table. If it's possible to employ AOE tactics for the Drones during this segment, I highly recommend it - using the Two Hand weapon really changed the texture of the entire fight, as well as the availability of Shields as opposed to Fire's massive Healing. The worst part of all of this is that it's basically required that you run the Dome's mechanic in order to move the fight forward; you MIGHT be able to Tank and Spank through this, but the likelihood is low. The Dome has six activation points laid in a semi-circle around where it sits; you have to deactivate all of these while the Calculator Bot is trying to kill you, teleporting you into the center of the Dome, and using the Drones to paralyze you repeatedly. This is no ordinary task and accomplishing it requires something of a mixed approach. If you can manage to remain mobile during this phase of the fight, you (might) be able to Shield, active the cog, and make it to the next one before you get teleported, paralyzed, or otherwise accosted. Or you may be forced to attempt to kill all of the Drones while all of the above is occurring, just to free up space. Thankfully, once killed the Drones remain dead; if you're going to engage them, do so on the periphery of the Dome's area. Eventually you'll be past this phase and onto step three - profit. After deactivating the Calculator Dome, you'll be fighting Calculator again / still. The Oracle sends in a trio of activation spots which - once activated - deal a tremendous amount of damage to Calculator. If you haven't deal with the Drones before now, do so now; activate the Beacons, and bam. DAMAGE. This effectively returns you to phase 1. Now, either you think I'm insane for recommending this as a Solo completion Bounty, or the above process worked for you. Do that two more times, don't die, and you win. Calculator Bot has 8 Marks and a Large Loot Box for a reward, and contributes to multiple Counter feats. Sweet, sweet SP. Take 2: https://youtu.be/A8kKWWYolD0
