Travel by air-conditioned minibus to Serian town where we will stop to buy fresh local produce from the market and some ration and supplies for the trip. It is a small town but the market is full of life from the colourful display of fruits to the local people of different races. Our next stop is for lunch at Lachau in a simple restaurant which normally caters for local travellers moving from the North of Borneo to the south or vice versa. It is interesting to know that the town exists out of nowhere as it used to be a trading place between the local Chinese and the indigenous people of Borneo Kalimantan. After lunch proceed to Batang Ai Jetty. Please note, our representative will try to be at the receiving jetty soonest by 3.30pm, latest by 4.00pm, as the boat trip from the jetty takes approximately 1 hour depending on the water level and we are travelling by native longboat across a man-made lake which can be dangerous after nightfall due to dead trees under the water. On arrival at the longhouse, you will be greeted by the Iban community. Free at leisure until dinner. In the evening, your guide along with the Iban people will prepare dinner, feel free to join in and learn how to cook local dishes. After dinner, presentation of gifts to the Iban Headman and an opportunity to mingle with the Iban people before lights out at 10pm!
