Marcus Sings Blue (da ba dee) - Forced Alignment Demo for Fallout 2 Voice Acting
This is a lip-sync demo from my implementation of a forced alignment script to extract the .LIP sequence file for voice acting modification in Fallout 2. Up until now, lip-syncing had to be done by hand. This was a log process to do in the past (indeed, it usually took a couple months for each talking NPC to design the head models and lip sync the vocals) and so discouraged people from creating voiced NPC mods for Fallout 2. My end goal is to expand the script for batch-processing of voice actor sound files for auto conversion into the necessary files needed for integration in the game. This will allow the modding community for Fallout 2 to add additional Talking Heads to the game with voice actors, without the need for long, tedious manual lip-syncing. The method used is called Forced Alignment which uses a script (.txt) of the words spoken to help constrain where the phonemes are expected to appear. Some hand editing is then done in praat if desired to help fine tune the lip sequence. This demo is of Marcus in Broken Hills where I attempted to extract singing vocals which proved tricky as additional manual tweaking of the text grid file was needed to get the phoneme sequence to line up correctly. Please forgive the crappy screen resolution, I am still working on improving screen capture for Fallout 2.
