Subject 16 is the descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze captured by Abstergo Industries before Desmond Miles. After being forced into the Animus longer than any human user would, we was driven mad and killed himself, after painting cryptic symbols on the walls of his room using his own blood. Desmond Miles would then find these symbols when he relives the memories of Ezio Auditore, all throughout Italy in Assassin's Creed II -- deciphering each symbols would unlock a portion of a video known as The Truth depicting the origins of man. These symbols return in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in all of Rome as "rifts." Solving all ten puzzles of the ten rifts will launch a program wherein the in-Animus Desmond Miles explores and encounters the cryptic Subject 16 himself. Just who is this guy anyway?
