Hymn To Osiris...
A "live" performance of "Hymn To Osiris" from my album, "The Ancient Egyptian Harp": http://amzn.to/FQU448 In this "live" version, in order to explore new tonal colours, I decided to experiment in arranging the piece for my replica lyre, instead of the replica archaic African arched harp which I used in the album. In this version, I use a variety of ancient lyre playing techniques, including the ancient Egyptian "string stopping" techniques to achieve accidentals, as can be seen in several depictions of ancient Egyptian harpists: http://bit.ly/xuEh12. Other techniques I use, include the ancient Mesopotamian percussive lyre-playing technique (where a small wooden baton is used to hit the strings, like playing a hammered dulcimer), the use of tremolo, as heard in Egyptian Simsimiyya lyre players today) & the "block & strum" technique, still used today by the Krar lyre players of Eritrea. I also explore use of harmonics by lightly finger-stopping strings at their centre.
