American Christian Universities: Neither Holy, Nor Roman, Nor Empire
Americans used to be great churchgoers, but it is not uncommon now to hear from friends and family that, "We home church." Christian College Coalition universities also used to promise a guiding light in a culture that was moving anti-Christian. The mission statement from my former university is thus: "Join fellow Christians from diverse backgrounds who all want to strengthen their faith, learn from one another, and prepare to be difference-makers for Christ in the world. Just imagine what you can learn when you’re surrounded by a wide variety of Christians in worship, prayer, discipleship, and service." In fact, it's not a richness of sharing ideas and helping others live as Christians; it is a bunch of fools trying to be somebody and band-aid it with a Bible verse, and nobody dares violate their individuality. That was 35 years ago; imagine today.
