PLAISIR D'AMOUR - Malmaison/Empress Josephine - Joanna Henwood
One summer we visited #Malmaison, the home of the #Empress #Josephine, wife of #Napoleon Bonaparte. I had also been meaning to record Plaisir d'amour, which I find a very beautiful and poignant song. I feel it reflects the relationship between Josephine & Napoleon, and all she had to endure, in order to retain her status as the First Lady of #France. "The pleasure of love lasts but a moment; the pain of love lasts a lifetime." "Plaisir d'amour" (literally "The pleasure of love") is a classical #French #love #song written in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini (1741–1816); it took its text from a poem by Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755–1794), which appears in his novel Célestine. It was famously recorded, among others, by #NanaMouskouri.
