Panasonic GH6 First Impressions: Unpaid and Unbiased
I've got a lot to learn about this camera, but have been impressed up to this point. The GH6 is a huge step up for video features compared to any of my other cameras. I was wanting to get a hybrid that was more video focused and chose the GH6 for a variety of reasons. The amount of storage and processing power required to implement the GH6 into your workflow is something that should not be overlooked. The price of a CF Express Type B card is no joke. SanDisk 256GB CF Express Type B: https://amzn.to/44aLJG1 You can also record directly to a USB-C solid-state drive which is much cheaper. Samsung T7 SSD 1TB: https://amzn.to/3AFiwW6 Either way, you'll want a UHS-II SD card which aren't that cheap either. PNY UHS-II 256GB SD Card: https://amzn.to/3oQJ6Jh I was pleased to discover the autofocus of the GH6 is much improved over the G9. The camera feels great and provides plenty of room to grow. My other considerations were the Canon R6 II, Panasonic S5 II, and the OM System OM-1. All of these cameras are nearly twice what I paid for my GH6. The main contender for the GH6 was actually the GH5 II. I know the GH6 is way more camera than I need, but felt it provided more room to grow and for the price difference, that seemed worthwhile. I'm hopeful this video is helpful beyond my first impressions of the camera. Buying a camera is a big decision. There are a lot of factors that are easily overlooked when purchasing a camera like this. Can my computer handle it is a good one. My M1 Macbook struggles with some of the more advanced codecs the GH6 has to offer. Not a big surprise, but something to keep on your radar for similar upgrades.
