Doom II - Magnolia Map01 (Ultraviolence/HurtMePlenty 100%)
Map: Another Place, Entirely Demo Date: 2/10/2021 Attempt: 5 A viewer requested Magnolia, so here it is. I am aware this is quite slow; mhrz of Doomworld maxed this map in 20:06 (HMP version of WAD). But this was requested so here it is. I've had this lying around for a few months, so maybe if I were to do the map again and actually route things it'd be faster...but I'm not a speedrunner and I like playing things casually, 100%ing maps just to say I can. Yeah so as for the actual map: I like it quite a lot. Nothing really stands out except the overall exploration vibe to the map, and the fight in that hall with the cyberdemon and imps lining the sides. That fight is the only one I have any trouble with. I didn't really fully figure out the puzzle with the pink and blue light things until actually doing this demo, so that's why I wander around in confusion like Doomguy just got a concussion after getting his head rocked in the hall fight. I love the cyb fiesta part of the map, and the addition of the teal cyberdemon makes for many dynamic fights (if anyone is wondering the barons are also modified to not count towards the kill count, but they function the same as normal barons otherwise). The 4 monsters and secret left at the end I believe are vestigial remnants of the UV version of the mapset that Ribbiks only used to send for those who sent him a HMP playthrough of Magnolia. He might still be doing that, but I don't think so since the wad is several years old now. I think I'll start doing a rating thing for maps I upload on the channel like Arbys550 does. I'll plug his channel even though it's 50x bigger than my own and comes with inspirational commentary (only half joking with this one, I actually like his commentary, it's very informal in a charming sorta way). Also, for all 2 of you interested, more Ribbiks maps are coming (I love his stuff), including the rest of Magnolia, maybe some Stardates and Swim with the Whales, and other stuff like Northern Powerhouse, Entropy, and Nochance. So stay tuned, I believe we can make it to 1 million subscribers by 6:00 pm EST on May 9th.
