GARDEN TOUR // Weekly Wednesday Walkabout: Front Porch Linda Vater // 2.03.2021
Brrrrr! A cold front is moving in after several rather nice days. This morning, I thought we do a little walkabout on the front porch, chaotic as it is. Tulip bulbs are starting to poke their tips out of the window box, And I am beginning to wonder about how this box will change now that there’s so much more light after the ice storm. I’ve been surveying the understory plantings in the front landscape: the boxwood , azaleas, Nandina etc. In doing so, I realize how many things may be damaged severely enough that I want to replace them. Or at a minimum, transplant them to the back where they can recover, and put new unblemished plants in their place. Southern living plant selections are coming to the rescue once again. I have grown dragon ‘Dragon Prince’ Cryptomeria in pots, but have yet to use it in the ground… Same with ‘Night Light’ Chamaecyparis. I think I may try both of them in the front garden to replace damaged evergreens. As part of my spring porch show, I also think I want to add a large pot with lemon-lime Nandina. If you sense a pattern here, you are right everything has a golden, lemony quality to them!
