These carnivals reproduce the first contact local villagers Italian side of the pass the Great St. Bernard with the army of Napoleon as mythological precedent. However, the Napoleonic uniforms and cocked hat - this is a superficial camouflage, hiding deep, archaic layers of local ritual traditions, which are tracing cult of bear, reflection of evil spirits, etc.
