Experiencing Medieval Astronomy with an Astrolabe

Without a telescope, even in the midst of the city lights, you can still see some of the brightest stars and planets. If you're patient, you can watch the planets move across the sky. Surprisingly, with just these data and a simple tool called an astrolabe you can tell the time, find compass directions, determine the season, and even measure the diameter of planetary orbits.
