How to sculpt a Chinese Lantern | 6 min | Nomad Sculpt

Steps: Lantern sphere - turn on wireframe - add UV sphere, uncheck constant density to lower x and y divisions - add cylinder, change x and y divisions, resize and position above lantern - turn on hole, duplicate cylinder for bottom rim - add a cube, lower x divisions to 0, turn on mirror and rotate 45 degrees with snap - adjust and resize, duplicate X shape to bottom rim Dangling parts - add cylinder, reduce x and y divisions as much as possible - turn on radial y symmetry to repeat cylinder around rim below lantern - validate, duplicate, and rotate for more dangling strings - import knot by clicking add to scene, and clean up some hidden objects - move knot in place - add two cylinders below knot - duplicate the dangling strings from earlier, and resize to fit them below - split away the vertical line on the knot, and stretch thru the lantern Tubes on sphere - turn on flat shading for the UV sphere - add tubes to the sphere- turn on snap at every point, make the y divisions equal the sphere y divisions. - turn on radial symmetry and increase count to 12 to match lantern Painting - paint objects - for the flower pattern, turning on DynTopo allows more detail to be created under the paint (useful since the lantern is low poly) Finalizing - post process, experiment with materials and lights.
