Here's how to add USB barcode scanning in Claris FileMaker Pro
Quality USB barcode scanners like the 2D Symbol/Zebra DS2208 allow you to set a scan prefix so you can invoke a FileMaker prescan script which will go to a layout/field to accept the scanned data. The default scan suffix of a tab/enter will then invoke a postscan script which will then "find" based on the scanned data. The use of the prescan script is preferred so endusers can simply pickup the barcode scanner and scan without worry of what layout/field they are on.
