Jack Fortner - Gabriel's Horn
“Gabriel’s Horn” (sound sculpture for trumpet and live electronics) was composed in Santos, Brasil between 14 July and 8 August 2016. It was written at the request of the fabulous Brazilian trumpet player Flávio Gabriel. Coincidentally, in July 2016 Flávio traveled to Spain and purchased four new instruments, all of which were equipped with a 4th valve that dramatically extends the lower range. Because of this the piece also became an exploration of these new possibilities. Three live electronic effects are also heard: a ring modulator, a rich reverberation effect, and a repeating delay of 3 seconds.
