Wow, last night I was very lucky... I saw lots of gold rings and necklaces on the road and tried as much as I could... still couldn't manage to pick them all up! but when I was finished collecting all I could -- other pedestrians found this too and they began running after me to rob me of my new found valuables. I was so scared and kept running and then wokeup dissapointed that this was all a dream. If it was true, I could become a millionaire over one night. I understand it could be only a dream to become a millionnaire in but one night. While dream is mèng 梦。 We learned that before Have is yǒu 有。So for saying I had a dream in Chinese, maybe you want to say Wǒ yǒu yí gè mèng. 我有一个梦。That's correct if you want to express your dream for future like a prediction of dream to come. But if you only want to tell peple last night, you had a dream. They you should say: Wǒ zuò le yí gè mèng. 我做了一个梦。Zuòmèng做梦-have a dream. Zuòmèng 做梦can be also used in other circumstances. For example: When your friends don't do anything but sitting on the sofa thinking of becoming a super star one day. You may say Tā yòu zài zuòmèng le. 他又在做梦了 Where "you" means again。Of course your friend is not sleeping, but thinking of something that will never happen. You can also use zuòmèng 做梦 in this case。Again if your friend says: I will win the lottery this year. Jīnnián wǒ huì zhòng cǎipiào.今年我会中彩票。. Then you may say zuòmèng. 做梦 So zuòmèng can be used to actually express that you had a dream when you were asleep. And it can also express thinking of unrealistic things. There are some very commonly-used phrases in Chinese related to mèng. Let's learn two of them today: rú mèng chū xǐng 如梦初醒 rú (like) mèng(dream) chū (the first time) xǐng (awake) So like the dream the first time awake. Can you guess what it means by this phrase? It expresses not clear about something at first then understanding it by accident inspired by someone or something. rú mèng chū xìng 如梦初醒 Next one is tóng chuáng yì mèng 同床异梦. Tóng (the same) chuáng (bed) yì (different) mèng (dream). So the same bed but different dream. What does this mean? Maybe it's a little difficult to guess the right answer. It means that a couple has a very bad relationship while living under the same roof. tóng chuáng yì mèng 同床异梦。 Chinese fact: Chinese people take meng very seriously. If we had a good dream, they believe the next day they will be very lucky. We always say rì yǒu suǒ sī yè yǒu suǒ mèng日有所思夜有所梦.That means you only deam of the things which you think always. Xīwàng nǐmen dōu néng shuō liúlì de zhōngwén.Zhè bú shì zuò mèng. 希望你们都能说流利的中文。这不是做梦。 (I hope that you all can speak Chinese fluently. This is not having a dream.)
