The Antidote to complacency & Key to lasting improvement. As habits become automatic it is easy to slip into the trap of complacency. Consistent review is the cure to this problem. This here is one example of how you can keep sharpening the saw. Quotes from Atomic Habits by James Clear “Reflection and review enable the long-term improvement of all habits because it makes you aware of your mistakes and helps you consider possible paths for improvement. Without reflection, we can make excuses, create rationalizations, and lie to ourselves. We have no process for determining weather we are performing better or worse compared to yesterday.” “Improvement is not just about learning habits, it’s also about fine tuning them. Reflection and review ensures you spend your time on the right things and make course corrections whenever necessary.” With reflection we take a step back and look at the entire picture, enabling us to get clear on where we should upgrade and take on new challenges and when we should refocus on the fundamentals. To ensure we are spending our time and energy on the right thing we can do this exercise: After each performance you can step back and ask. 1.What went well 2.What didn’t 3.What did I learn 4.Where can I upgrade? 5.Where do I need to return to the fundamentals? Without a review and reflection system in place, we have no way of comparing our prior performances or determining whether we are improving or getting worse. Lets sharpen the saw, and fine tune our skills .
