Winner: Best Handheld Game of 2011
We spent a few minutes staring at the lineup of games for the PSP, NDS, and 3DS during our deliberations with a scowl on our faces. There were some great games in the mix, and even though the icing was delicious, the cake itself was pretty bland. Having separate categories for each of these systems would mean we'd have to scrounge for merely good games to round out the list, which goes against our idea that simply being nominated is a high honor. Once we got the idea of throwing them all into one group, things became a lot more interesting. We had to carefully deliberate the ultimate worth of a number of great games, cutting out those near and dear to our hearts because there just wasn't enough space in the top five to recognize all of the outstanding candidates. Yes, this is unfair for those who only own one of these systems and want to know what the definitive games from 2011 are, but we think this solution highlights the cream of the portable crop.
