Choosing A Crown Shape for a Fedora
If you wish to support our channel financially, here’s a link to our PayPal address: quadrogong@gmail.com jjhatcenter.com Here we choose the appropriate crown shape for 3 hats, Different crown shapes will often make or break a hat, it will sometimes be a simple matter of lowering or raising the height (depth) of the crown, to suit the wearer's height, and overall preferences. It's a bit like tailoring a suit. Everyone has different needs, based upon their head and body shapes..therefore,hats need to be altered to suit the individual wearer's preferences. Changing a crown shape, or changing the outer ribbon, can drastically change a hat's style. People's tastes evolve as years pass. Some hats will take countless re-shapings and still look fresh, those are the very highest quality hats. Most hats lose a little something if you reshape the crown too many times, it gets stretched, and loses it's definition, so give it some thought before switching crown shapes. It's good to keep things simple, I've learned that the simple center crease/pinch front design can look more elegant than anything else, it's graceful in its simplicity. Try to make sure the hat is suited for that shape too, often a teardrop looks best in a deeper, baggier crown, and when you try to teardrop a tapered, shallow crown, there just isn't enough felt there to execute a stylish or authentic looking 1940's teardrop. Teardrops were often made in taller, baggier hats, since all men's hats were baggier and taller in the crown back then. ,guys liked to hand shape their hats, hats were softer, and there was lots of fabric to play with. These days, most crowns are tapered, like a capital letter "A", they come to a bit of a point at the top,and the crowns are way lower in general. Like most fashion these days, things are more streamlined and tailored. Some fedoras are just too modern in cut, they just don't look great wearing a teardrop. Other hats are just already perfect in style, like an Armani suit,a red Ferrari,or a black Borsalino..some things are just classical in their design, and they just don't need radical changing. In these cases, I suggest minor changes only, like lowering the crown slightly to suit the person's height.small moves. www.jjhatcenter.com thank you all so much for watching! ?? thanks!! Quick tip! How to quickly stiffen a hat, 1.dust it w packing tape, get every drop of dust/lint or else u seal it in forever 2.cover the sweatband completely, (inner band) I use a hat stretcher but painters tape or stuffing crown with a huge ball of tissue works 3. Use ultra super hold hair spray ,not aqua net, any other brand. Thin coats but get the whole underside of brim , let dry and Repeat, Let dry completely. if needed, afterdrying, u may steam the hat and fix any brim issues But this is easier left to a trained hat tech, if you're unsure of what you're doing, just avoid steam. You'll do more damage than good, most likely..its tricky even w years of exoerience, and usually best to quit while your ahead if the hat looks ok, and always keep steam off of leather sweatbands, it'll burn it and destroy the inner band in a split second, ******steam NEVER goes on the inside of a crown or anywhere near the leather sweatband!!!*** PLEASE hit "SUBSCRIBE" !
