Etude Moderne: Alan Hirsh
“Etude Moderne” is your first solo using the p, i, m arpeggio. It’s also a good study in what musicians call “voicing.” Voicing is the art of making a particular line stand out in a musical texture. Notice in this recording that I try to bring out the moving line by playing its notes a bit louder than the others. By doing this, I draw the listener’s attention to the more interesting part of the texture.
