Coherent | X-Ray Insights into Copper Welding
Experiments at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility @ESRFsynchrotron provide the first high-speed, high-resolution, side view x-ray video of ARM fiber laser welding ever captured, enabling new insights into fiber laser welding of copper. Comparing different beam profiles demonstrates the advantages of Adjustable Ring Mode (ARM) fiber lasers. The video shows that an optimized power distribution between ring and center beams generates a stable keyhole and melt pool. This enables deep welding in copper at penetration depths of up to 6 mm.
