Lamentations Once I was lovely once I was young/Once I rejoiced in the light of the sun/Once the pure waters flowed straight to my well/Now I sing lamentations to heaven or hell/The keys of a kingdom were thrown at my feet/A table was laden with all I could eat/Now I beg them to feed me through the bars of a cell/And I sing lamentations to heaven or hell/Lord if you’re listening from so far away/To all the dim voices that whisper and pray/Show us your mercy tell us all shall be well/Or sing lamentations from heaven or hell/Once I was golden once I was young/And I danced by the light of the moon and the sun/Now I’ve grown weary of the sound of the bell/And I sing lamentations to heaven or hell/Now I sing lamentations from heaven or hell © Rupert Wates June 2019
