Apple vs. the FBI - A discussion with WDRC Radio's Dan Lovallo (audio only)
This time instead of being the interviewer I was the interviewee! WDRC's Dan Lovallo interviewed me on the FBI vs. Apple controversy. See more interviews here: http://lon.tv/interviews and subscribe here! http://lon.tv/s Dan's radio show can be found at http://lon.tv/frontandcenter I do believe what the FBI is asking will weaken Apple's encryption model. Apple's strong encryption is only as good as the user's password. And given how difficult it is to type in strong passwords on the iPhone's screen, anything that makes it easier to brute force password guesses weakens the entire encryption. Apple has protections in place to slow the number of guesses made or optionally erase the phone after too many incorrect guesses. There is a lot at stake here but both parties will need to come to some kind of compromise. I talk about what I think might be a fare compromise in the interview.
