The Long Dark is a new style of survival game without monsters or zombies. It's just you against a harsh environment and the natural wildlife that lives there. Your daily battle is against the unrelenting sub-arctic weather conditions, hunger, thirst, predatory animals, and cabin fever. Hunt for harvestable plants, rabbits, deer, and moose ... or risk intestinal parasites by killing and eating the carnivores trying to do the same to you (bears and wolves). Scavenge towns and isolated villages for manufactured clothing and processed foods, or live off nature harvesting and hunting food, and crafting your own clothes from animal skins and furs. Search for modern weapons and tools, including hunting rifle and flare pistol, or craft your own bows, arrows, knives and hatchets at one of the few workbenches or forges scattered around the dozen or so maps that make up Great Bear Island (additional maps / regions coming in future updates). The game includes 5 main difficulty types - story mode and four types of survivor mode from easy to extreme difficulty, plus many challenge modes for quick play adventures with unique scenarios to overcome. It is a strictly solo player game that makes you think and strategise every decision, and for the unwise ... all survival modes feature permadeath - one fatal mistake and you have to start again from the beginning.
