What happens when a timing belt is installed incorrectly, in this case the retaining washer was left out. The timing belt started to "walk" on the crank sprocket and worked its way into the front timing belt cover and started to shred. It's only a matter of time before the front cover or the timing belt disintegrates and creates an expensive repair. This missing retainer lists at $5.83 but we need to replace the timing belt again and the front cover, after only 2 months of driving.
