Is shooting externally worthless?: Sony FS5 SLog2 Test: 8bit 422 VS ProRes 10bit 422
I have been trying to figure out the Sony FS5 Slog2 recording(I have the three updates on it). According to Alister Chapman Slog2 is the way to go with this camera, I have been trying to figure out exposure and color grading. Highlight zebras were exposed to 70%, I used gain level zero(which would select the base ISO automatically) I recorded internally to the SD card 4K 24Fps 8bit 422 and externally to the Atomos Shogun, I did not record ProRes RAW HQ, I recorded it on ProRes HQ(which is supposed to record 10bit 422). I can definitely see more noise on the ProRes HQ version, though it has a pattern that reminds me of the movies that I would watch back in the 80s. I used the Slog2 sgamut 2 cine +709 LUT as an starting point for my color edit and I adjusted color hues and saturation manually.
