Wood Turning #113 Texted Pallet Batting

Sterling Davis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx15julPGCU&list=PLVRSIqwQ1XHpF4mJemO2Ee2RlzQTbZUPI Karol Kolanowski KK Make http://www.youtube.com/user/polishedwoodworking Custom Chris http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAGJQfE8Li0xYgt1q5TYuvA Second things first here: Sterling... I am afraid that the ball cannot be entered into the challenge as your name and the date have been inlaid with Ebony. The bat though remains strictly pallet wood. But rules are rules and if this results in a disqualification... I think I might have more ideas brewing! So a walnut pallet... whodathunk? And I find the difference in the grain from one end to the other is amazing! And I lucked out with that inner piece... you saw in the handle there was a fairly large hole that was just on the outside of the handle! My math skills have never been great... but when the walnut board is 1 inch thick and the red one ¾ inch I just assumed that if its 2 ¾” tall ... it should 2 ¾” wide too! I guess I should have cut the walnut boards wider... that would have made the bat bigger around... and might have made a little less filling.... but it would have cut down on the number of projects I could get out the cut-offs! I probably should have just run a row of screws down the middle of the boards... a few more holes in pallet wood shouldn’t be a problem... should it? So that was a fun day down at the Sheringham Point Lighthouse. As you can tell, I played more hockey than baseball! But while I might have been able to do better with a hockey stick... they are a lot harder to turn! Now... for those of you who have survived so far... I have a confession to make... I couldn’t do it! That ball was so hard and it would have left such a dent! So I made a doppelganger! For the bat, not the ball! So who ever gets the bat will get it in pristine condition! The other one was made out of an old fence post and was painted black. (and yes I continued to use Karol’s spray handle and I don’t have any paint on my hands to prove it?) if you pay careful attention to the video, you can spot where it was changed! I even had to make a small image of the wall down beside the steps... where I leaned the bat. So a bat is always there except when I walk by... then you will see the bat switch from leaning right to leaning left... and when I walked over and switched bats it would have been a dead give away! So the winner will have the option of receiving the one with the dent as well, if they so wish! Out in front of the lighthouse are a number of boats. The fish are running and the hopes are high! The boats seem to be standing still out there... but in fact they have large V8 engines and they are throttled up pretty good! The tide is just moving so fast that it takes a lot just to keep up with it! And of course there was the other fisher! The one behind the subscription page. (and here is an embarrassment! That only showed up on the texted version! Sorry about that!) That was a Stellar Sea Lion and he wisely goes with the flow! I was curious so I did some looking... these guys weigh in at 200lbs more than a buffalo! All eleven feet of him! My thanks to you Sterling, for putting ideas in our heads; and for thinking of others in their time of need. The world needs more people like you! Happy Ball hunting everybody! And thanks for reading Larry PS for those of you who like the untexted better... Sorry I thought I had taken it all out! And to fix it would be another 5 hours! I'm already a week late on this and I wanted to get it to you as soon as I could. Larry
