Lebedev Vs. Lebedeva
Have you ever fought with yourself and your own character? The years slip by, and every day falls away like leaves from an autumn tree. Life is good in general, but we fight with our inner self and how we imagine we could be and want to be, always tomorrow.This is the theme of the movie Lebedev vs. Lebedev, that is, the character against his own self. A successful researcher is approaching 30 as a single man, and the movie constantly throws the viewer into a little confusion, sometimes funny, as the movie runs in sections on how the man wishes he would be. However, the viewer senses that it is too good to be true, and indeed, the movie flips back to real life.Midlife crisis creeps up on single people, perhaps with a vengeance and very early. Nothing seems to prevent the man from doing and finding in life what he wants, but somehow he always draws back. The very girl he has dreamed about and seen on the metro suddenly really does appear at his door, but only to be introduced as the new girlfriend of his colleague.In hindsight, we see 20/20, as they say; we see everything clearly. The steps in life that baffled us and threw us into turmoil are now laughable. With age, a sure hand can fix what caused us years of naive despair. This film reminds us of that and how the main character actually does change and life suddenly becomes sweet.
