Having scored no points in a disastrous debut season in 1999, BAR (British American Racing) would be hoping to turn it around in 2000 as they made the switch to Honda engines and retaining both Jacques Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta. It was a much better year for the team as they scored points more often, and in the end finished joint-4th in the Contructors with Benetton on 20 points.
