Famous academic and their scientific discovery from USSR are: Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov (1921–1989). A prominent physicist and dissident, he played a crucial role in the development of the Soviet hydrogen bomb and later became a leading advocate for human rights. Andrey Nikolaevich Kolmogorov (1903–1987). A mathematician known for his groundbreaking work in probability theory and turbulence. Igor Yevgenyevich Tamm (1895–1971). A physicist and co-developer of the Tokamak, a device designed to confine plasma for nuclear fusion research. Lev Davidovich Landau (1908–1968).
