Elden Ring- The Black Blade | Maliketh's Black Blade Build (NG+6)
So, this is the build that settles some things very soundly. 1. Colossal Swords are plenty viable with Elden Ring's pace of combat although admittedly, they do require more patience for good openings if you are trying to play relatively cleanly. 2. Physical/Holy Weapons are plenty viable even in deep NG+ although again, patience is definitely necessary. It does help that Maliketh's Black Blade in particular leans way more physical than holy. So, on to the weapon itself, I found myself enjoying Maliketh's Black Blade a bit more than Godslayer's Greatsword. Maybe I simply prefer the more heavy swings of the traditional r1 chain, or maybe it is how Destined Death comes out generally quicker than the Queen's Black Flame, but something just clicked with this weapon a bit more naturally. So naturally in fact, that most bosses generally went down in an attempt or two (with exception to Malenia, Mohg and Godfrey, but I blame that on the fact I am slightly out of my depth with Colossal Swords compared to faster weapons). The lingering damage over time was REALLY effective, netting 10,000+ damage on Mohg and Malenia, which was amazing. For this Build: My main damage stat is Strength at 55 with 46 points into Faith for access to the Black Blade incantation. I wanted to have at least 30 endurance because Colossal Swords are very costly on stamina. My main talisman set-up was Erdtree's Favor +2 for increased health, stamina and equip load (just enough to med roll), Shard of Alexander for increased damage when using my weapon skill: Destined Death, Sacred Scorpion Charm for increased Holy Damage and the Axe talisman for increased power to charged heavy attacks. On occasion, I will sub in the Carian Filligreed Crest for decreased cost for Destined Death or Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman for increased tankiness. For Physick, the Holy Shrouding Cracked Tear and Stone Barb Cracked Tear. General strategies with this build is using the immense power of heavy swings break down a enemy's posture, using Stone of Guraaq as a ranged posture dealer and using Destined Death and Black Blade for the Destined Death effect and damage over time. At any rate, this and the Godslayer's Greatsword run were for those who first saw me using Strength weapons and some of my first Elden Ring videos to do really well were using the Greatsword, so it was cool to go back to my roots in a sense. How to Improve this Build: This build does definitely have some room for improvement compared to the RL150 version I am using here. If you were to go beyond RL150, Strength should go all the way to 80 and Faith should go to 51, the last soft caps with this weapon. This would bring your AR to 981 when one-handing and 1021 when two-handing (before talismans, buffs and physick.) This would be a 9% increase in power when one-handing and a 5% increase in power when two-handing. You could also push Faith even higher to 80 if you wanted to run more incantations and then use the Erdtree Seal. More Endurance would useful so that you could replace the Great Jar's Arsenal with something more useful like permanently keeping Carian Filligreed Crest in or maybe the Ritual Sword Talisman, Flock's Faithful Canvas or Dragoncrest Greatshield.
