Loose Leash Walking

In this FREE 2-hour webinar, I take your through the 'Hagrid' method of loose-leash walking. Many guardians struggle to walk their dog on a lead, particularly if their dog is reactive or fearful. Loose-leash walking requires a lot of cognitive control. It is one of the hardest skills for a dog to learn. Some trainers and guardians turn to aversive equipment to control their dog. From head halters and 'no-pull' harnesses to shock, choke and prong collars, these devices are designed to control your dog rather than teach them what you would prefer them to do. There are many physiological, emotional and behavioural costs to these tools, not least that they can fail us when we most need them and also that they can end up worsening emotional problems. In this webinar, you'll learn why loose-leash walking is one of the hardest skills for a dog to master. Think of it like learning to tightrope walk and then being asked to do it for hours at a time. Especially when the brain is busy emotionally, it can be really tough for dogs to master. The more challenging the environment, the greater their emotions, the tougher it will be for them to remember. Learn how to identify frustration and issues with impulse control, fearfulness and anxiety, and how these affect our dogs on a walk. You'll learn the 'Hagrid' Method of loose-leash walking, taught to me by a particularly sharp shepherd. This webinar was originally produced for Ark 79, a fundraising charity in SW France who do tremendous work supporting rescue and rehoming associations as well as sanctuaries and TNR schemes.
