Biography Born in Hama Syria 1936 to a middle class family his father worked in business and suffered material losses as a result of what the French did during their mandate. This led to poor living conditions and forced the young Suhail to drop out of school temporarily to help support his family. In 1952 he recieved his high school degree, then in 1956 he was summoned for national service at the time of the tripartite aggression against Egypt, during which he was based in Shaykh Miskeen. He graduated with a bachelors in History from Damascus University in 1963. He then went onto achieve his Masters from the same institution (on the 11th century AD Emirate of Aleppo) before traveling to England and recieving a doctorate from the University of London (SOAS) in 1969. He was a prolific author, specialising in Arab history, including the 50-book Comprehensive Encyclopedia in the History of the Crusades. He passed away in March 2020.
