“Supporting Indigenous Peoples in the Arctic Region”

Watch in Russian: https://youtu.be/7oPkDbtnYpI Preserving the unique cultures of the Northern people remains one of the few unifying factors left for the Arctic states in the current situation. 82,5 thousands out of the 2,5 million people inhabiting the Russian Arctic are representatives of the local indigenous minorities who constitute a very special category of the population that requires special attention, support, and protection from the governing authorities. Matters regarding the preservation of the local indigenous peoples’ cultural heritage, maintenance of their traditional livelihoods, as well as potential opportunity of exchanging experiences and policies in this regard between the Arctic states are going to be addressed during the roundtable discussion on “Supporting Indigenous Peoples in the Arctic Region”. The event is organized by the Centre for International Journalism Development “RBMC” in collaboration with the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA).
