Клейменов Петр Гаврилович
A remarkable man is my wife's grandfather—Клейменов Петр Гаврилович who seems larger than life in his photo. His Place of birth: Ryazan Region, Miloslavsky District, Kurbatovo Village. He rose in his career to the rank of a lieutenant colonel with multiple awards, having enlisted in 1935. Apparently, back in the 1930s, Petr had worked as a tractor driver and so his skills were used to drive tanks in the army. Let's remember the situation in the east in WW2. The Soviet armed forces there struck at the Japanese in Kolgkin Gol, the unofficial start to WW2. We remember that the Japanese had overrun Manchuria and parts of Mongolia. They installed the Chinese Emperor as their puppet. No less than General Zhukov headed up the fight at Kolgink Gol and decisively defeated the Japanese, which convinced them not to open a fight in the east against the U.S.S.R. during WW2. With German troops approaching Moscow in 1941, the lack of Japanese attack in the east allowed the U.S.S.R. to transfer Siberian troops to the Moscow area, which saved the day, and the Battle for Moscow was won by the Red Army. Therefore, the efforts of the Soviet army in the east in 1939 in Kolkin Gol played an enormous role in the future outcome of the war. And in the east, we find Petr Gavrilovich. According to military records, Petr was in the 17th army stationed in the Trans-Baikal area, in the 66 отдельный танковый полк 25 моторизованной бригады under General Danilov. The 17th army, Formed in July 1940 in the Trans-Baikal Military District. On September 15, 1941, it joined the Trans-Baikal Front and was in combat readiness to carry out tasks related to the defense of Trans-Baikal. In August 1945, having in its composition the 209th, 278th and 284th Rifle Divisions, two tank battalions, a number of artillery, engineering and other formations and units, participated in the Khingano-Mukden operation of 1945, during which by the end of August reached the coast of the Liaodong Bay. It was in the Active Army from August 9 to September 3, 1945. If we remember history, Stalin promised that exactly 3 months after the war in Europe ended, by agreement with the Allies, the U.S.S.R would declare war on Japan. On the 9th of August the Khingano-Mukden Offensive began, when the Red Army and the Mogolian army attacked the Japanese, who lost over 220,000 prisoners, 480 tanks, 500 aircraft, and 860 guns.Starting out as a private, Petr Gavrilovich retired with the rank of Leutenant Colonel. His list of awards and medals are considerable: Order of the Red Banner (2)Order of the Red Star (2)Medal for Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 (2)Medal for Military Merit
