MAGIC RESIN CUBES! - Resin, Alcohol Ink & LED's 😍
What's NOT to like about a crazy cube that lights up? Exactly, NOTHING! This weeks video we tried our hand at resin cubes with alcohol ink and LEDs! We learned a lot with this project. I mean, the first cubes we attempted, our resin started reacting too quickly and it basically COMPLETELY failed. We did warm up the resin slightly to reduce air bubbles, which by the way, our resin has instructions to do this! BUT.. it cured pretty much instantly! We still went ahead and dropped the alcohol ink on the top, just for fun at this point as we knew this attempt was buggered. Once cured, yup, the inks just sat on top and it was absolutely filled with air bubbles! Not what we wanted! We suggest if you're thinking of warming your own resin, make sure you're just pouring and leaving it. If you need to do some artwork or mess around with it, your time will already be up! The second attempt went a lot better, we didn’t warm our resin this time. After we poured the resin into our moulds it was time for the alcohol ink. So, we started adding drops of colour on top which makes pretty cool patterns as the alcohol in the inks evaporates. Because our first cube didn’t work, we were both anxious and worried our ink wasn’t sinking 😂 Soooo, impatiently we poked the ink down which was nothing short of a bad move. Literally 30 minutes later all the ink had sunk anyways! BE PATIENT! We let it cure for 24 hours and upon de-moulding our cubes, turns out we didn’t have to be worried about the ink at all! If anything we had added to much pigment 😝 But all in they’re really cool looking and we enjoyed learning how to deal with resin!
