From Stainless Steel to Hybrid Glass Crowns - Dr Desi Moodley - Dr Moodley (WEB72)

Presenter - Dr Desi Moodley Brought to you by the Paedodontic Society of SA Over the years, many types of crowns have been developed and advanced to aid the clinician in rehabilitating deciduous teeth. This lecture discusses the various options that are available for full coverage restorations for primary dentition. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach will be discussed. This lecture goes through the procedures from Stainless Steel Paediatric crowns to Zirconia crowns to Laser Sintered Hybrid Glass crowns when restoring the deciduous tooth. A step-by-step procedure that provides a simplistic approach when restoring the deciduous tooth will be taught through the use of minimally invasive aesthetic paediatric crowns. Learning Outcomes: Following the lecture, delegates will be able to understand the various treatment options available for restoring deciduous teeth. They will be able to transfer this knowledge to the clinical situation and be able to place paediatric crowns on the child patient. Dr. Desi Moodley completed his PhD in Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape on Dentine Bonding Agents. He is currently studying for his 2nd PhD on the use of Stem Cells in Regenerative Dentistry. He completed his Masters-Dental Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch in Restorative Dentistry. Also completed Post Graduate Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (Cum Laude). He is the winner of several awards including the Hatton Award, International Association of Dental Research for the best Post-Graduate Research. He was awarded the Lever Ponds Scholarship and Pameijar Scholarship for his work on Cytotoxicity of Dentine Bonding Agents. Awarded Best Outgoing Undergraduate Dental Student and awarded Gold Medals for Prosthodontics, Oral and Dental Anatomy, Pharmacology, Oral and Dental Pathology. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He has lectured extensively on various topics both in South Africa and Internationally and is the author of many scientific articles. He is also the editor of the book Cytotoxicity of Dentine Bonding Agents and a contributor to several chapters in textbooks. He has been in Private Practice in East London and a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the University of the Western Cape. He is currently the Head of Clinical and Scientific Studies at the Smile & Education Centre in Austria.
